Scottish Junior Golf Tour at KGC
The Scottish Junior Golf Tour (SJGT) had its first visit to Kingsfield and despite the strong winds and rain everyone had a fantastic time.
Kingsfield is as good a venue as anywhere in the winter due to the way the brand new course was constructed including USGA specification greens and drainage - like a links course inland!
As usual the Coaches Kendal and Dean put the boys through a series of skill challenges on the range, short game area and putting green for their warm up. The juniors and parents were very impressed with the high quality and condition of all these areas and particularly enjoyed the Ochils putting green which offers fun and excitement similar to the Himalayas at St Andrews.
This was a level four SJGT event which is aimed at the older juniors but included some of our younger players who have been playing well recently and we also welcomed along some new faces from the Lothian County squad.
The boys had a special treat when Krystle Caithness, Ladies European Tour player, came along to share some of her experiences on the LET and went on to play in the competition with Angus Carrick and Alasdair McDougall.
Despite the conditions scoring was very good with Craig Ross from Kirkhill winning the scratch competition with a 1-over par 69.
Fraser Davren from Williamwood was second with 70 and Calum McKay from Monifieth finished in 3rd place with a 71.
11 year old Murray McCrone from Troon Welbeck continued his excellent form and did brilliantly well to shoot 78.
The handicap prize was won by 11 year old Jack Savage from Cawder with a nett 63.
We would like to thank Robert Arkley, David Mitchell and all their staff for helping to make the event such a success and we hope to be back at Kingsfield many times in the future.
